Methodology
How we research what to see and do in Indonesia.
Our Editorial Philosophy
A useful choice depends on your plans, season and budget. We weigh options using cited sources, then explain the tradeoffs.
How We Rank Options
Recommendations consider these criteria and explain their limits:
- 1
Trip fit
Match the traveler, timing and the decision the guide addresses.
- 2
Scope
Check what a ticket, tour or boat transfer includes, including stated restrictions.
- 3
Season and availability
Distinguish dry-season and wet-season conditions from current live availability.
- 4
Evidence
Cite factual claims and identify unsupported or uncertain details.
What We Don't Rank By
Understanding what we explicitly exclude matters for trust.
- ✗Affiliate commission rates
- ✗Paid placement
- ✗Invented visits
- ✗Unverified guarantees
Where Our Data Comes From
Our recommendations synthesize multiple signal types. We prioritize signals in this order:
1. Tourism offices, temples and parks
Official descriptions, opening hours, entry rules and seasonal announcements
2. Operators and service providers
Direct descriptions of tours, classes, boat transfers and booking terms
3. Attributed reporting
Published context with an identifiable source and date
Handling Uncertainty
When a source doesn't confirm a detail, the guide says so and points you to the operator page to check. We'd rather be clear about what is published than guess.
