Bali Fine Dining: Where to Book, What It Costs & Getting There

The quick version

Plan a fine-dining night in Bali: how to choose an area, what tasting menus involve, booking tips, transport, and where to go next for drinks.

Last updated November 2026. Bali fine dining comes down to two choices: which of four areas to base your evening in, and how early you reserve. Ubud, Seminyak and Petitenget, Canggu, and the Bukit clifftops each offer a different pace, format, and ride home. Planning a date night instead of a tasting menu? Our guide to a romantic dinner in Bali covers that angle.

Bali Fine Dining at a Glance

Pick by area first, then by format. Ubud suits a slow, multi-course evening around Jalan Raya Ubud. Seminyak and Petitenget suit a dinner that flows into bars. Uluwatu and the Bukit suit a sunset table on a cliff. Canggu leans casual, so treat it as a relaxed option rather than a tasting-menu base. Venue details change often, so confirm menus, hours, and dress code on each restaurant's own site before you commit.

  • Ubud: tasting menus and wine pairings, quieter after dinner
  • Seminyak and Petitenget: the easiest dinner-to-nightlife handoff
  • Bukit and Uluwatu: clifftop views, longest rides
  • Canggu: relaxed upscale, best paired with a beach club day

What Fine Dining Means in Bali

Expect a set tasting menu, an optional wine or non-alcoholic pairing, and a slow pace. Many tables run two to three hours, so plan nothing tight afterward. Smart-casual clothing is a safe default, but dress codes differ by venue. Check each restaurant's site. Skip this format if you travel on a tight budget or bring young children, since a tasting menu runs long. Guests with strict dietary needs should also think twice unless the kitchen confirms accommodation in advance. À la carte special-occasion restaurants offer a shorter, cheaper alternative.

Ubud: Tasting Menus Near Jalan Raya Ubud

Ubud holds the island's most tasting-menu-driven scene. Search results describe Apéritif as a leading fine-dining room with a wine cellar and an in-house sommelier. That is an unverified claim, so check its own reservation page. Mozaic appears in older listings from around 2019. Confirm it is still open and still serving the same format before you plan around it. Ubud winds down early, so eat first and drink elsewhere.

Seminyak and Petitenget: Dinner Before the Night Out

Seminyak and Petitenget put dinner within reach of the island's busiest evening scene. Book an early seating and you can finish in time to move on. Uluwatu and the Bukit: Clifftop Dinners

The Bukit is where you book for the view. Wet Plate Kitchen, in Ungasan near Uluwatu, is one candidate. Competitor listings show evening hours of 6–11PM daily, but treat that as unverified until you check the restaurant. Its Asian-inspired menu fits "special-occasion casual" better than a tasting-menu evening. Plan sunset timing around your reservation, then look at Uluwatu Beach Clubs: How to Choose & Get There for daytime options.

Good to know

Competitor listings give Wet Plate Kitchen 6–11PM, which is unverified. Ride-hails are hard to find from clifftop venues, so book your return driver before sitting down.

Canggu: Relaxed Upscale

Canggu is better for a long beach afternoon than a formal dinner. If you want an upscale night here, book ahead and plan your ride home early. Balinese and Indonesian Fine Dining

If you want Balinese flavors at a higher level, look for set menus built around local dishes. Examples include bebek betutu, a spiced steamed duck. Traditional versions need ordering at least a day in advance, so ask when you reserve. We have not verified specific venues for this format. Confirm any restaurant's current Balinese tasting menu on its own site. Contrast helps with budgeting. A competitor guide reported two plates of warung food costing IDR 64,000 in March 2024, which shows the gap between a warung lunch and a tasting-menu night.

Costs and Booking

Think in tiers rather than fixed prices. A warung meal sits at the bottom. A competitor guide logged a heaping vegan buffet plate near IDR 45,000 in April 2024. Mid-range à la carte restaurants sit above that. Tasting menus with pairings sit at the top. Menu prices change, so read the restaurant's current menu in IDR. Before you pay, check deposits and cancellation terms. Reserve several days ahead for popular rooms and earlier for weekends, and send dietary requests with the booking. For general travel context, see the official Indonesia tourism site. For a romantic angle with a less formal menu, see Bali romantic dinner ideas.

Tip

Two warung plates cost IDR 64,000 in March 2024, a useful baseline before comparing tasting-menu budgets.

Getting There and Getting Back

Bali evening traffic can turn a short hop into a long ride, especially between Seminyak and Canggu or toward Uluwatu. Book a driver for the return when your dinner ends late. Ride-hail pickups can be hard to arrange from clifftop venues and in Ubud. Set the pickup point with the restaurant. Choose your reservation time around sunset and the ride, not the other way around.

Mistakes to Avoid

A few planning slips cause most disappointments.

  • Booking a tasting menu without checking the dietary policy
  • Assuming hours from a blog; confirm on the venue's site
  • Scheduling a late club night right after a three-hour dinner
  • Booking an area far from your hotel without arranging the return
  • Treating casual warungs as fine dining, or the reverse
