Bandung Airport (Husein Sastranegara): Flights and Tips

Bandung Airport at a Glance

Husein Sastranegara is Bandung's city airport. Its IATA code is BDO. One listing gives the address as Jl. Pajajaran No. 156, Cicendo, Kota Bandung, postal code 40173. Verify that address with the operator before sending a driver there.

The operator is the state-owned company InJourney Airports, formerly known as Angkasa Pura. Its official airport operator site is the place to confirm status and facilities.

As of 1 July 2026, The Jakarta Post reported that the Transportation Ministry was preparing to reactivate the airport for commercial jets. The quoted operations start was 17 September. That report said BDO then served only scheduled domestic flights on propeller aircraft. We could not confirm from the supplied sources whether jet or international service actually began after that date.

• Name: Husein Sastranegara Airport
• Code: BDO
• Location: Cicendo, inside Bandung city
• Status as of this update: reactivation for jets announced, so check current schedules

Flights and Airlines: What Operates Now

Treat any route list older than 2026 with suspicion. A page dated 2020 describes Citilink and Lion Air jet flights restarting in August of that year. It also lists e-HAC health cards and PCR tests. All of that is obsolete.

The July 2026 report says ministry officials were classifying routes and asking airlines where demand sits. That means the route map was still being drawn when the report ran. Do not assume international flights. Do not assume your favorite airline serves BDO.

The practical method is simple. Search your route on the airline's own site. Then check the operator page for the airport. If the airline sells the BDO flight on your date, it exists. If it does not, plan for another airport.

Which Airport Should You Use?

Bandung has more than one realistic gateway. A 2020 source describes Kertajati Airport in Majalengka as the place where jet flights were available while BDO handled propeller aircraft only. A recent Jakarta Post headline also mentions Kertajati being turned into a regional Hercules maintenance hub. Verify Kertajati's current passenger service and its transfer time to Bandung before you book.

Jakarta is the fallback. Soekarno-Hatta (CGK) and Halim Perdanakusuma (HLP) both appear among the airports near Bandung. You then cover the overland leg by road or rail. The Cipularang toll road and the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail (Whoosh) at Padalarang are the two overland routes to compare. Confirm current rail timetables and the link from Padalarang into the city before relying on them.

Getting From Husein Sastranegara to Central Bandung

BDO sits in Cicendo along Jl. Pajajaran, so most central hotels are a short drive away. Traffic is the real variable. Weekends and holidays slow roads in and out of the city, so build in a buffer rather than trusting a map estimate.

Taxis and ride-hailing are the usual choices. Check the app before you walk out, because pickup points are not always at the terminal doors. We found no confirmed rail or bus link from the terminal in the supplied sources. Treat that as unverified, and do not assume a metro exists. Bandung has none in the sources we reviewed.

For Dago or the Lembang direction, ask your hotel for the best pickup arrangement. Our guide to 10 Best Things To Do in Bandung: Areas, Routes & Plans helps you pick which area to base yourself in first.

Airport Facilities

Do not trust generic facility lists. One template page claims lounges, a spa, duty-free shopping and a children's play area at BDO. It also talks about Mumbai traffic, so it is not describing this airport. We could not verify those claims.

Treat Wi-Fi, prayer room, ATMs, food, lounge and baggage storage as unconfirmed until the operator lists them. Bring some cash in rupiah and a charged phone with your airline app. Keep your boarding pass and ID within reach at security.

Where to Stay Near the Airport

The Pasteur and Pajajaran side of the city is the closest base to BDO. Hotels listed near the airport include Aston Pasteur and Hotel Vio Pasteur. Those names come from a booking template, so confirm they are open and check rates yourself.

Staying here suits an early flight or a late landing. For a longer trip, you may prefer a base near food and cafes. See where to eat in Bandung and Bandung's cafe scene before you choose. After a long travel day, a Bandung Massage Guide: Types, Costs & How to Choose is an easy first stop.

Planning Your Arrival and Departure Day

No official check-in rule for BDO appears in the supplied sources. One Lion Air notice from 2020 asked passengers to arrive 3 to 4 hours early, but that was a pandemic-era rule. Check your airline's current guidance for your flight.

Allow extra road time on weekends and holidays. Leave central Bandung earlier than the map suggests. If you fly out of Jakarta, add the full overland leg plus a margin.

On arrival day, keep plans light. Check the best time to visit Bandung for seasonal timing, and the BMKG weather agency for forecasts. Mistakes to Avoid

These errors cost travelers the most time with Bandung airport planning.

• Relying on a 2020 route list or pandemic rules.
• Assuming BDO has international or jet service without checking your airline.
• Ignoring weekend and holiday traffic in and out of the city.
• Confusing BDO with Kertajati or Jakarta airports on your ticket.
• Trusting generic template pages that mention lounges, metro or other cities.
