Fly Into Batam or Take the Ferry?

This is the real decision for travelers based in Singapore or Johor. Ferries land you at terminals such as Batam Centre, Harbour Bay and Waterfront, which sit much closer to town than Hang Nadim. Flying wins when you start elsewhere in Indonesia or connect from a longer flight. Check sailing details with the Singapore Cruise Centre at HarbourFront before you commit. Readers still deciding whether the island suits them can read whether Batam is worth visiting.
| Starting point | Better option | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Singapore | Ferry | Lands near town; no 22 km road leg |
| Johor / Malaysia | Check both | Compare current flights and ferry links |
| Elsewhere in Indonesia | Fly | Domestic routes reach Hang Nadim directly |
| Other international | Fly or connect | Verify routes with your airline |

Airlines and Routes to Batam Airport
Reference listings from 2023 and 2024 show Batik Air, Citilink, Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air, NAM Air, Super Air Jet and Wings Air. Those listings point to Jakarta, Medan, Padang, Palembang, Pekanbaru, Surabaya and several other Indonesian cities. They also mention Kuala Lumpur and Seoul-Incheon. Routes change often, so treat that as a pointer and not a timetable. Check your airline's booking page for current service. The airport's operator also publishes details through BP Batam's airport pages.

Arriving: Entry Rules, Money and SIM Basics
Entry rules depend on your passport. Check visa-on-arrival or e-visa status and any pre-arrival form on Indonesia's official immigration channels before you fly. Singapore and Malaysia passport holders should confirm Batam-specific rules the same way. Official sources supplied for this guide give no fees, so budget nothing until you have checked. Sort out cash, a local SIM and your ride-hailing app on arrival day. Confirm which of these the terminal offers before you rely on it.

Getting From Hang Nadim Airport to Your Hotel
Plan for a road trip of about 22 km into town, then add buffer for traffic. No fares appear in our sources. Ask your hotel or check at the airport counter for current prices. Whether Grab or Gojek may pick up at the terminal is unverified, so confirm the pickup point before you land. Our guide to where to stay in Batam helps match a base to your transfer.

| Destination | Best option to check | Ask the driver or hotel |
|---|---|---|
| Nagoya | Taxi or hotel transfer | Fixed price before departure |
| Batam Centre | Taxi or hotel transfer | Drop-off at the ferry terminal or mall entrance |
| Nongsa | Hotel transfer | Pickup meeting point |
| Harbour Bay / Waterfront | Taxi | Exact terminal name |
Departing: Timing and Check-In
Check your airline's current check-in cutoff for international and domestic flights, and do not guess. Add time for the road from town or the ferry terminals. Confirm any departure tax or airport fee with your airline or the airport operator.

Facilities and Using a Layover
Reference listings give the terminal about 30,000 m² (roughly 323,000 sq ft). Food, ATMs, lounges and prayer rooms are all unconfirmed, so verify them with the airport operator. On layovers, our judgment is editorial, not official. Under 4 hours, stay airside. From 4 to 8 hours, consider Nagoya or a mall; see our Batam malls guide. Past 8 hours, leaving is possible with a generous buffer. For longer stops, browse 8 Things to Do in Batam: Best Attractions & Day Plans.
From 4 to 8 hours opens a town trip, but the 22 km road leg needs buffer for traffic.
Terminal 2 and What Is Changing

In 2021, BP Batam signed a public-private partnership covering renovation of the existing terminal and a new Terminal 2. The deal runs 25 years, and BP Batam says it should double capacity to 10 million passengers a year. See BP Batam's airport history for the plan. Construction status and opening date are unconfirmed here. Expect works or changes to terminal layout, and recheck before you fly. A BP Batam news item also reports management moving to PT Bandara Internasional Batam on 1 July, with no year in our excerpt. Verify the current operator.
Hang Nadim's design capacity is 5 million passengers a year, and BP Batam says the Terminal 2 work should lift it to 10 million passengers a year.
