Last updated November 2026. The best time to visit Nusa Lembongan is the dry season, roughly April or May to October. Wet season, roughly November to March or April, trades some weather and sea risk for quieter beaches. Season edges are approximate, so we treat them as ranges rather than fixed dates.

Short answer: the best time to visit

Dry season is our default pick for first-timers. Skies are clearer, beach days at Mushroom Bay and Dream Beach are more predictable, and boat crossings from Bali tend to run smoothly. Wet season suits travelers who value space and lower prices over sunshine. Competitor sources disagree on exact boundaries: one gives May to October for dry, another April to October. Check Indonesia's weather agency, BMKG, for current climate data, and the official Indonesia tourism site for trip-planning basics. For the wider island picture, start with our Nusa Lembongan activity guide.

Tip

Warm water is not the signal to watch, since sea water stays near 27°C (81°F); swell matters more for boat crossings.

Daytime highs sit around 30°C (86°F) most of the year, and sea water stays near 27°C (81°F). Nights hover near 24°C (75°F). Treat these as rough planning figures and confirm against BMKG. The bigger swing is rain, swell and price. Our table maps goals to months. Every month range is approximate. We found no sourced figure for how much cheaper wet season is, so we won't quote a discount. The one price in our sources is Rp50,000, which one blogger reported paying a hotel near Dream Beach for chairs and pool access. Check current rates before you go.

Month-by-month guide

We keep this compact because no source supplies month-level rainfall. Think in groups, and expect overlap at the edges.

  • November to March: wet season. Showers can arrive morning, afternoon or night, and seas can turn rough.
  • April: transition. Some sources count it as dry, others as wet.
  • May to June: dry-season start. Our pick for a good-weather trip before peak demand.
  • July to August: widely described as high season. Book boats and rooms early.
  • September to October: still dry and, in our judgment, a strong value window.
  • Late December: expect heavy demand around Christmas and New Year. Verify before booking.

Surf: competitors say dry season suits Playgrounds and Lacerations, with consistent offshore winds. Our Nusa Lembongan surf guide covers the breaks. One resort post mentions glassy morning surf in wet season, so conditions vary by day. Snorkeling and manta: Crystal Bay and Manta Point are the usual names. No source here proves a best month for manta rays. Ask an operator when you book a Nusa Lembongan tour. Beaches: Dream Beach and Mushroom Bay are best on calm days, and one blogger notes currents make swimming hard at some beaches. See our beach guide for tide and current notes. Quiet and budget: wet season, if you accept showers.

Rain and sea state are different things. A sunny day can still bring swell, and a drizzly one can be calm. Crossings can be delayed or cancelled in rough seas in any season. Wet season raises that risk, according to the ferry operator we reviewed. Build a buffer day before any flight home. Our ferry guide covers operators and what to expect. Route details sit in our Bali to Nusa Lembongan page. For all options, see How to Get to Nusa Lembongan from Bali: Boats & Tips. For airport arrival details, use the Ngurah Rai Airport site. Book ahead in dry season, when demand runs higher.

Festivals and holidays that affect your trip

Galungan falls every 210 days on the Balinese calendar. Nyepi, the Day of Silence, usually means no flights, no cars and strict quiet islandwide. Boats normally stop too. We could not verify 2027 dates from our sources, so we won't guess. Check the Bali tourism board and the national holiday decree before booking. Plan to be settled on the island before Nyepi and expect to stay put.

Wet-season survival plan

Rain rarely lasts all day, so keep plans flexible. Book a Nusa Lembongan Massage: Types, Prices & How to Choose for a downpour. Some beach clubs have covered areas, though check before you go. Take care on wet roads: our getting around guide covers scooters.

How many days, and day trip vs overnight

Sponsored

We'd stay at least one night. One blogger reports the last ferry back from Lembongan around 16:00. Another says sunset spots need arrival around 16:00 to 17:00. Those clash, so a day-tripper likely misses sunset. Verify current departure times with your operator. See Day Trips From Nusa Lembongan: Penida, Ceningan & Snorkelling for options. Not sure it fits? Read Is Nusa Lembongan Worth Visiting? Honest Verdict. That same blogger suggests 3 to 4 days if combining Nusa Penida.

Mistakes to avoid

Sponsored

These are the errors we'd flag most.

  • Booking a boat the day you fly home, with no buffer.
  • Assuming dry season means calm seas.
  • Arriving around Nyepi unprepared.
  • Assuming wet season means all-day rain.
  • Trusting one blogger's sunset or ferry times without checking.
