Last updated November 2026. Canggu food splits into three camps: café and brunch spots, warungs serving local Indonesian meals, and international restaurants. Pick by budget, area and time of day, then plan your ride home before you sit down.

Canggu Food at a Glance

Start with the meal type, not a venue name. Each type suits a different traveler, and each has its own timing and transport trade-off. Hours change often, so confirm them on the venue's Instagram or Google Maps listing. For ranked picks, see our best Canggu restaurants.

What to Eat in Canggu

Warungs are the place to start with Balinese and Indonesian staples. Look for nasi campur, a plate of rice with several small side dishes. Babi guling is roast pork, and Sate lilit is minced-meat satay, both worth asking for at a local warung. Skipping warungs is the most common way to miss the local side of Canggu. • Nasi campur: rice with a mix of sides, easy to build to your taste
  • Babi guling: roast pork, so not for halal diners
  • Sate lilit: minced-meat skewers, a Balinese style of satay
  • Smoothie bowls and all-day breakfast: Amolas Cafe on Jl. Kayu Tulang is one reported example
  • Burgers and fish and chips: Old Man's, facing Batu Bolong Beach

Dietary Notes and Spice

Indonesian food can be spicy. If you are sensitive, ask for your dish without chili before it is cooked. Vegetarian and vegan options are widely reported at Canggu cafés, but confirm ingredients with staff, especially for allergies. Halal diners should avoid babi guling and ask each warung about its ingredients. Learn the dishes hands-on at a Canggu Cooking Classes: Options, Prices & How to Choose.

Where to Eat by Area

Canggu food clusters around Batu Bolong, Echo Beach, Berawa, Pererenan and Babakan. Batu Bolong suits post-surf meals, since Old Man's sits right in front of Batu Bolong Beach. Babakan has JOON Canggu, an Asian fusion spot with a pool area that one blog calls family-friendly. Choose one cluster per meal and walk within it. Do not assume a restaurant is walkable from your villa. Venues in Jimbaran, Kuta or Munggu are outside Canggu and need a separate trip. Pair beach meals with our Canggu beaches guide.

Warungs vs Cafés vs Beachfront Dining: How to Choose

Warungs win on price and local dishes. Cafés win on smoothie bowls, coffee and laptop-friendly seating, though Wi-Fi and quiet seating need checking per venue. Beachfront spots win on sunset views but add traffic and ride-hailing waits. Many restaurant pools are photo or event props, so ask before assuming guests can swim. Check for a minimum spend or entry rule at beach clubs. Surfers should read our Canggu surf guide to time meals around the tide.

How Much Does Eating in Canggu Cost?

No current, sourced IDR menu prices are available for this page, so use relative tiers instead. Warungs sit at the bottom, mid-range cafés in the middle, and beachfront or upscale restaurants at the top. Check the current menu on the venue's Instagram or Google Maps listing, and look for service charges or taxes at the bottom. For general tourism context, see Bali's provincial tourism site. Best Times to Eat and Plan Your Day

Here is a one-day route that balances time, cost and access. Eat breakfast early to beat peak brunch crowds. Have a warung lunch after surfing. Aim for sunset dining near where you are staying, and book your return ride first. STED is reported to be open 24/7, which helps with early or late caffeine. Rainy season can disrupt outdoor dinners, so check the BMKG forecast before booking. Our Canggu weather guide has seasonal context.

  • Morning: smoothie bowl or all-day breakfast at a café such as Amolas Cafe, before peak brunch
  • Midday: nasi campur at a warung after the beach
  • Sunset: a beachfront or pool restaurant in one walkable cluster
  • Late: burgers or a drink near Batu Bolong, then see Canggu Bars: Where to Drink by Vibe, Area & Budget

Getting to and from Restaurants

Scooter rental gives freedom but Canggu traffic is slow, and Kerobokan is flagged as notoriously bad. Grab and Gojek rides work, yet one traveler waited more than an hour for a car home from a Munggu restaurant. Book return transport before sunset, or choose a walkable cluster. Grab and Gojek delivery is widely used when you want to stay in. Compare options in our Canggu Scooter Rental: Costs, License & Tips guide. Common Mistakes to Avoid

Most food mistakes in Canggu come down to timing and assumptions. Avoid these.

Good to know

Many warungs close earlier than cafés, so plan a late meal around a café. STED is reported 24/7 if you need a late coffee.

  • Assuming a restaurant is within walking distance
  • Arriving at peak brunch hours without a backup café
  • Not asking about spice level
  • Skipping warungs entirely
  • Not checking minimum spend or pool-access rules at beach clubs
  • Ordering water or ice without checking the source; ask staff if unsure
