Last updated November 2026. Uluwatu day trips fall into two groups: loops on the Bukit Peninsula and longer runs to Jimbaran, Nusa Dua, Sanur, Tanah Lot or Nusa Penida. This guide ranks both by effort and best-fit traveler, then adds a sunset-anchored sample day. Visitors arriving from Seminyak or Canggu get their own section further down.

Quick answer: the best Uluwatu day trips at a glance

Stay on the Bukit if you have one day and want the least time in traffic. A temple, Kecak and beach loop fits one driver day. Leave the peninsula only when a specific draw justifies the transfer, such as Jimbaran seafood or the Nusa Penida boat. Travel times below are not sourced, so confirm them in a ride-hail app or on a map for your travel date. For wider ideas, start with the main Uluwatu activity guide.

Day trips on the Bukit Peninsula

Staying on the Bukit saves hours that Bali traffic would otherwise eat. Four stops work well together. Each has a different pace, so mix one active stop with one slow stop.

  • Uluwatu Temple (Pura Luhur Uluwatu) in Pecatu: recent listings show adults at IDR 60,000 and children at IDR 40,000, open 07:00 to 19:00. Confirm both before you go. Watch for monkeys that Grab sunglasses, hats and phones.
  • Kecak dance: recent listings show IDR 125,000 for adults and IDR 100,000 for children. It runs at the temple or at GWK, so check the venue and start time. Our Kecak dance guide covers the choice.
  • GWK Cultural Park: the Vishnu and Garuda statue is listed at about 397 ft (121 m) tall. Plan on a half-day, which suits families because the grounds have space to roam. Check tickets on the park's official channel.
  • Padang Padang, Suluban and Melasti: Padang Padang is listed at IDR 15,000 entry, and Suluban parking at around IDR 15,000. Suluban's caves are best at mid to low tide. See Uluwatu's beaches for the full list.

Day trips beyond the Bukit

Longer trips need an early start and a firm return plan. Jimbaran Bay suits a seafood dinner after GWK. Nusa Dua has resort beaches with calmer water than the cliff-backed Bukit coast. Sanur is the departure point for fast boats to Nusa Penida. Tanah Lot is a temple-at-sunset trip that fills most of a day. Honest verdict: Nusa Penida and Tanah Lot rarely beat the Bukit unless you already have seen the temple and beaches. Prices, boat schedules and journey times were not supplied for these routes, so check operators and ride-hail estimates before booking. For quieter options near home base, try the Pecatu area guide.

How to get around: scooter, driver, ride-hail or tour

A private driver suits a multi-stop day because the car waits while you walk cliff paths. Ride-hail works for one-way hops but may be harder to find near remote beaches. Scooters give freedom on the Bukit, but check your license, insurance and helmet before you ride. Read our scooter rental guide first. Group tours remove planning but fix your timing. No sourced day rate for a driver was available, so ask for a total price in advance. Our Getting Around Uluwatu: Scooter, Taxi, Driver or Walk? page compares each option.

Sample one-day itinerary (sunset-anchored)

Sponsored

Plan backward from sunset to avoid midday heat and the evening traffic crunch. Arrive at a deck spot about 45 minutes before sunset. Adjust the sequence to your tide and the day's sunset time.

Tip

Keep the temple visit inside its 07:00 to 19:00 opening window, since a late sunset slot can run past closing.

Best season and weather for day trips

Dry months make cliff paths, beaches and boat crossings easier. Wet months bring rain, rougher seas and slippery steps. Check official BMKG forecasts for weather and sea conditions before booking a boat. Our best time to visit page covers seasons in detail. On wet days, use the rainy day alternatives instead.

Costs, tickets and opening hours

Recent listings give these planning figures. Uluwatu Temple is IDR 60,000 for adults and IDR 40,000 for children, open 07:00 to 19:00. Kecak is IDR 125,000 for adults and IDR 100,000 for children. Padang Padang entry is IDR 15,000. Suluban parking is around IDR 15,000. One 2026 listing for Sundays Beach Club starts from 800K with a 500K food and drink credit. Official rates and hours can differ from these, so confirm at the temple, GWK and each operator before you go. A separate free things to do list helps trim the budget.

Visiting Uluwatu as a day trip from Seminyak, Canggu or the airport

Sponsored

Yes, a day trip from Seminyak or Canggu is possible, but traffic eats time. Hire a driver and start early so you reach the Bukit before the afternoon build-up. Aim for a single cluster, such as the temple and Kecak, instead of a broad tour. Nusa Dua and the airport sit closer to the peninsula than the northern resorts, but check journey times in a ride-hail app. If you wonder about an overnight stay, read whether Uluwatu is worth visiting. Then compare where to stay.

Mistakes to avoid

Sponsored

Most failed days come from overpacking and poor timing. Skip three beaches plus a distant boat in one day. Ignoring traffic turns a short hop into a long drive. Check tides before Suluban and Padang Padang. Wear a sarong and sash at the temple, as the dress code applies. Keep valuables away from monkeys. Never book a boat without checking sea conditions. If you want lesser-known stops, browse quiet cliff beaches and viewpoints.

Good to know

Tide timing matters most at the cliff stops, and a second visit costs little when Padang Padang entry is IDR 15,000.

  • Overpacking the day with too many stops.
  • Ignoring Bali traffic when you plan returns.
  • Bad tide timing at cliff beaches.
  • Wrong clothes at the temple.
  • Valuables left near monkeys.
  • Booking boats without checking the sea.
