Last updated November 2026. Bali in October is a transition month, so it is a good time to visit if you accept a little rain late in the month. Early October leans dry, and showers build toward the end as the wet season approaches. Use our verdict and the early-versus-late split below to decide, then check the year-round picture in our Bali best-time guide.

Bali in October: Quick Verdict

Go in October if you want lighter crowds and mostly workable beach days. Early October behaves like the tail of the dry season. Late October behaves like the start of the wet season. Both labels are true, which explains why travel sites disagree.

If you want the drier, busier alternative, read about Bali in September: Weather, Crowds & What to Expect. If you want more rain and fewer people, read about Bali in November: Weather, Rain & What to Do (2026 Guide).

  • Go if: you want a flexible trip, can shift plans around showers, and prefer quieter streets in Seminyak, Canggu and Ubud.
  • Go if: you are a surfer or diver who can read daily conditions and pick the right coast.
  • Skip if: you need guaranteed sun for a fixed-date wedding, a photo shoot or a tight outdoor itinerary.
  • Skip if: a single cancelled boat crossing to the Nusa Islands would ruin your trip.
  • Families and honeymooners: choose early October and a base with indoor options, such as Ubud or Sanur.

Weather and Rain in October: What to Expect

Expect warm, humid days with sunshine in the morning and a rising chance of afternoon showers. Rain usually arrives as short bursts, not all-day downpours, though that pattern shifts as the month goes on. Humidity climbs, so plan light, quick-drying clothes.

For rainfall and climate normals, check the national weather service BMKG before you book. Exact start dates for the wet season vary by year, so treat any fixed date with caution. Our Bali rainy season guide explains how the shift unfolds across the island.

Crowds and Prices in October

October sits in the shoulder season between the dry-season peak and the wetter months. Popular areas such as Seminyak, Canggu and Ubud feel less packed than in July or August. See Bali in August: Weather, Crowds & Who Should Go for the contrast.

Quieter streets often mean better room availability and more room to negotiate on villas. No official figure is available here, so compare current rates on your own dates. Festival and school-break dates change each year, so verify them with official Indonesian tourism sources before locking in flights into Ngurah Rai Airport.

Where to Base Yourself in October

Rain tolerance should decide your base. Coastal areas reward early October. Inland Ubud works in any week because its best activities survive a shower. Pick one or two bases rather than four.

Best Things to Do in October, and Rain-Day Swaps

Beaches, surf, diving, sunrise hikes and rice-terrace walks all depend on the weather. Temples, cooking classes, spas and museums do not. Schedule weather-dependent activities for mornings, because afternoons are when showers tend to build.

  • Beach day in Canggu or Seminyak: swap for a spa session or cafe afternoon if rain arrives.
  • Rice terrace walk near Ubud: swap for a cooking class or temple visit.
  • Snorkeling or diving off Nusa Lembongan: keep one spare day in case the sea is rough.
  • Sunset at Uluwatu: swap for an early dinner and shift the view to another evening.
  • Surf: check conditions daily and move to the coast that suits that day's wind and swell.

Sample 7- and 10-Day October Itineraries

For 7 days, split your time between two bases. Spend about half in Ubud and half in Seminyak or Canggu, or swap one for Uluwatu if you want surf. This keeps transfers low and leaves room for weather.

Tip

Nusa Lembongan works as a third base over 10 days, timed for early October. Mostly dry weather that month suits boat crossings, though rough seas can still delay them.

For 10 days, add a third base, such as Nusa Lembongan, in early October. Put the boat crossing early in the trip, not on the day of your flight home, and leave a buffer day. Ask your driver for current transfer times, because traffic varies a lot.

A 10–12 day plan covering Ubud, Seminyak, Kuta and Nusa Lembongan is workable. Kuta adds little beyond Seminyak for most travelers, so consider dropping it and spending the nights in Ubud or the Bukit instead. Check operator advisories before every crossing.

Costs and Booking Tips for October

Book flights, your first and last nights, and any must-do experience ahead of time. Leave the middle of the trip flexible, so you can move days around showers. Prefer boat crossings and tours with free rebooking or refunds when the sea is rough, and read the cancellation terms before paying. Check current rates directly with hotels and operators, since prices change each season.

Mistakes to Avoid in October

Sponsored

Over-scheduling outdoor days is the most common error. Packing every morning and afternoon with open-air plans leaves no space for a wet day. Booking a Nusa transfer the same day as an international flight is the second. Assuming October is fully dry leads to nasty surprises late in the month. Assuming it is fully wet makes you skip a good-value trip.
