Last updated November 2026: the best restaurants in Denpasar are local warungs, a night market and a few Renon sit-down spots, not resort dining rooms. Our short list starts with Warung Satria, Rumah Makan Kedaton, Dapoer Pemuda and Pasar Malam Kereneng. Seminyak, Ubud, Jimbaran and Uluwatu restaurants sit in other districts, so we cover only Denpasar city here and link the rest of your plans through our Denpasar things-to-do guide.

8 Best Restaurants in Denpasar for Local Food

We picked eight places across three areas: the temples-and-palaces Centre, the Kereneng night-market zone and Renon. Prices below come from older published research, so treat them as a guide and not a menu. Budgets run from Rp 18,000 for a plate of ayam goreng to Rp 65,000 for oxtail soup. Confirm every opening time on Google Maps before you go.

Where to Eat by Area

City Centre: base your meals on Jl. Sutomo and Jl. Kedondong. Sariboga sits on Jl. Sutomo, and a single-dish babi guling stall is reported north of Pura Maospahit. We have not confirmed that stall's name, so ask locally. Our Denpasar temples guide maps the sights between those meals.

Tip

Kereneng's stalls run late, so arrive after 18:00 and pair the night market with a Renon meal at Warung Mina, where mains are around Rp 60,000.

Jl. Veteran: Dapoer Pemuda and Voltvet are neighbours, so you can eat and then have coffee without moving. Both are around the corner from Museum Bali, which makes a natural pairing.

Kereneng: head to Jl. Kamboja after 18:00. Stalls grill goat satay and carve babi guling until late. Our Denpasar at night guide covers what else is open.

Renon: this government and embassy district is calmer and pricier. Warung Mina fits a meal after Bajra Sandhi Monument. Expect to pay more than at a city-centre warung.

Local Dishes to Order in Denpasar

Many warungs specialise in one dish, and a queue of ride-hailing drivers usually signals a good one. Learn these names and ordering gets easy.

  • Nasi campur
    • Rice with small portions you point to, often chicken, beef, vegetables and sambal.
  • Ayam sisit and Sate lilit
    • Shredded chicken and minced chicken-and-coconut satay, both on Kedaton's counter.
  • Babi guling
    • Roast suckling pig, sold at Kereneng and from street stalls. It is pork, so skip it if you avoid pork.
  • Ayam goreng, ayam bakar and lalapan
    • Fried or grilled chicken with raw vegetables and spicy sambal, as served at Dapoer Pemuda.
  • Es daluman
    • Cooling green jelly drink with coconut milk and palm sugar. Order it after spicy food.

Vegetarian, Vegan and Pork-Free Options

Sariboga on Jl. Sutomo is our vegetarian and vegan pick, and it is small, so go outside peak lunch. Dapoer Pemuda and Kedaton serve chicken and beef dishes if you want to avoid pork. Many Denpasar stalls sell babi guling, so ask what is in a dish before ordering. Halal status is not stated in our sources, so verify venue by venue. Warung Mina also lists chicken, pasta and pizza for non-fish eaters.

Costs, Hours and Payment

A warung lunch at Kedaton ran about Rp 20,000–30,000, and Warung Satria about Rp 35,000. Dapoer Pemuda dishes ranged from Rp 18,000 to Rp 65,000. These figures come from older research, so prices as last checked may now be higher. Older listings gave windows such as 08:00–22:00 for Kedaton and 09:00–21:00 for Warung Satria. Confirm hours on Google Maps. We could not confirm card acceptance, so carry rupiah cash for stalls and small warungs. Check BMKG forecasts for rain before long walks between meals, and see our Denpasar weather guide for seasons.

A One-Day Food Route in Denpasar

Start with a late breakfast at Dapoer Pemuda on Jl. Veteran, then have coffee at Voltvet next door. Go to Warung Satria on Jl. Kedondong for nasi campur at lunch, and walk Puri Satria afterwards. In the afternoon, take a coffee break at Treasures Coffee, which sits in the lane behind Level 21 Mall. Finish at Pasar Malam Kereneng after 18:00. Use ride-hailing for the longer hops and keep each meal within one area. If you are staying overnight, our Denpasar accommodation guide helps you pick a base. Pair a cheap lunch with sights from our free Denpasar activities list.

Tip

Warung Satria's lunch runs about Rp 35,000, so budget more here than at Kedaton, where a plate costs Rp 20,000–30,000.

Mistakes to Avoid

Sponsored

Most food disappointments in Denpasar come from planning for the wrong kind of city.

  • Expecting resort-style dining
    • Denpasar is a working city. Expect warungs, not beach clubs.
  • Arriving at Kereneng too early
    • The market starts around 18:00, so earlier visits find little.
  • Assuming cards work everywhere
    • Carry cash and verify payment at each venue.
  • Skipping hours checks
    • Small warungs change their lunch and dinner times, so check Google Maps first.
