Last updated November 2026: the main day trips from Labuan Bajo are a speedboat circuit through Komodo National Park and land outings on Flores, such as Cunca Rami waterfall and Batu Meja. Choose the boat for dragons, Padar and snorkeling. Choose the land for rough seas, seasickness or a tighter budget. Both fit into one day, but they differ sharply in hours, cost and weather risk.

Quick answer: the best day trips from Labuan Bajo

One shared speedboat operator lists six stops in a single day: Padar, Pink Beach, Komodo Island, Taka Makassar, Manta Point and Siaba. Pickup runs roughly 06:15 to 06:30, and the boat returns between about 16:30 and 18:00. On land, Cunca Rami sits about 35 km southeast of town, and Warloka is about 15 km south of the main port. Treat every figure below as one operator's example and confirm it when you book. For the wider menu of activities, start with our Labuan Bajo activity guide.

How to choose: sea day trip or land day trip

Start with the weather and your stomach. A full boat day means many hours on the water, and operators warn that stops can change with sea conditions. Land trips stay on the Flores road network, so a rough-sea forecast hurts them far less. Use the rules below to decide.

  • Pick the Komodo boat if you want a dragon trek, the Padar viewpoint and snorkeling in one outing. Skip it if you get seasick or hate early starts.
  • Pick Cunca Rami if you want a swim and a 1.5-hour village walk. Skip it if you cannot manage uneven trails or stream crossings.
  • Pick Batu Meja and Warloka if you want a short stair hike and a view over the park. Skip it if you need restaurants nearby, because Warloka has only simple snack shops.
  • Pick a shorter 2–3 stop boat day if you travel with children or older relatives. Skip the six-stop circuit for them.

One-day Komodo National Park by boat

A one-day Komodo tour is possible, but it is a long day. One operator's schedule starts with a 07:00 to 08:00 crossing to Padar. The Padar trek takes about 40 minutes with concrete steps, so check the current trail condition. Pink Beach follows, then roughly 80 minutes on Komodo Island for the dragon trek. Lunch comes around 12:30, then Taka Makassar, Manta Point and Siaba for snorkeling. Back in port at about 16:30, you will have spent most of the day moving between stops. A 2–3 stop version leaves more time at each place. Ask for Padar, Komodo or Rinca, and one snorkel stop. For overnight options and boat types, read our Labuan Bajo boat tour guide. Dragon walks are ranger-led, and sightings are not guaranteed. Our Komodo Island guide covers the island in more depth. Manta Point and Taka Makassar can have currents, so follow your guide's instructions in the water. Before booking, check for life jackets, a licensed guide and a boat in good condition.

Land day trips around Labuan Bajo

Land trips make a sensible fallback in rough seas or on a tight budget. Cunca Rami is about 35 km southeast of Labuan Bajo. An operator describes a walk of about 1.5 hours through villages and farmland with a swim at the end. Wear shoes that grip when wet, and ask whether a local guide is needed for the trail. Warloka lies about 15 km south of the main port. Batu Meja is a short stair hike to a stone table and a clearing with views toward the park. Pack food and water, because Warloka has only a few simple snack shops. Hire a driver for the Cunca Rami road if you are unsure about scooters. For more of the island, see our Flores things to do. Costs, park fees and what's included

One shared Komodo speedboat tour is listed at Rp 1,450,000 per person for up to 22 people. That operator excludes the park entrance fee, which it quotes at Rp 550,000 for foreigners, payable in cash. Treat both numbers as one operator's example, not a market rate. Confirm current fees with the Komodo National Park authority before you pay. The same operator suggests booking about 15 days ahead. Its cancellation terms are a full refund up to 7 days out and a 50% charge within 5 days. Cancellations inside 48 hours are charged in full. Ask what is excluded before you pay a deposit.

Good to know

Rp 550,000 for foreigners sits outside the Rp 1,450,000 tour price, and the park fee is payable in cash.

Getting there and planning your time

Pickup for the boat day starts around 06:15 to 06:30, so book a hotel near the harbor or in a pickup zone. One operator covers hill hotels and beach hotels near town. Flights reach Labuan Bajo from Jakarta, Kupang and Denpasar. Read our guide to reaching Labuan Bajo for the options. Our Labuan Bajo airport guide covers transfers. If you arrive from Bali, see Bali to Labuan Bajo. You can also read Bali to Flores: Flights, Ferries & Overland Routes Compared. Allow at least one buffer day after arrival before a six-stop boat trip. That way a delayed flight does not cost you a deposit. Bring cash, because balances and park fees may be due in cash.

Best time and weather risks

Sponsored

Sea conditions decide whether a boat day runs as planned. Operators say destinations can change with the weather, and cancellation terms can bite if you cancel within 48 hours. Check the official weather agency BMKG for sea forecasts close to your date. Do not rely on a fixed month list. Land trips such as Cunca Rami also depend on trail and stream conditions after rain. Our Best Time to Visit Labuan Bajo: Month-by-Month Guide page covers the seasons. Keep one flexible day in your plan so you can swap a sea day for a land day.

Trips that need more than a day

Some Flores highlights do not fit in a day. Kelimutu lies east of Labuan Bajo in Ende regency, and one operator says to allow about 4 days. Wae Rebu is a traditional Manggarai village reached by a hike of roughly 3 hours, with a homestay possible. Treat that one as an overnight. Ruteng-area caves are also better as part of a longer trip, and you should verify distance and drive time first. Our wider Flores planning page helps you link these into a multi-day route. An overnight boat trip is worth it if you want sunrise at Padar or a relaxed pace.

Tip

Plan for Kelimutu and allow about 4 days, since the six-stop boat circuit squeezes into about 10 hours.

Mistakes to avoid

Sponsored

Most problems come from planning, not the places themselves. Check each item before you pay.

  • Overpacking the itinerary: six stops in about 10 hours leaves little time at each.
  • Booking without reading exclusions such as park fees and tips.
  • Ignoring the weather: stops can change with sea conditions.
  • Arriving without cash: balances and park fees may be due in cash.
  • Skipping sun and water prep: bring sunscreen, a hat and water.
  • Wearing unsuitable footwear on the Padar steps or the Cunca Rami trail.
