Day Trips From Lombok: Gilis, Pink Beach, Waterfalls
Plan day trips from Lombok by base town: Gili islands, Pink Beach, Rinjani waterfalls and south coast surf, with time, cost and transport trade-offs.
On this page
Last updated November 2026, the best day trips from Lombok depend on where you sleep. From Senggigi or Mataram, Gili Trawangan is the easy win, while Kuta bases suit Selong Belanak and Sade. Compare eight options in the table below, and see our wider Lombok planning guide for the rest of the island.

Best Day Trips from Lombok at a Glance
Eight options cover most one-day plans. Times run one way from the stated base. Costs are reported ranges, so verify them before booking. Cells marked 'varies, check operator' had no supportable figure. Rinjani's summit is missing on purpose, because it is a multi-day trek.

Choose Your Base First: Where You Sleep Decides the Day Trip

Lombok's sights are spread across the island, so your base sets your radius. Kuta is about 20 minutes from the airport, and it puts the south coast on your doorstep. Flight and terminal updates sit on the airport operator's site. Check airport transfer options before you lock in a first-night base. Mataram is busy, and one older Kuta-focused guide advises against it as a base. From Senggigi or Mataram, you can also build a land day around the Mataram palace and temple loop, plus the Sukarara and Banyumulek craft villages. Temple fans can start with temple visits across the island. Bangsal Harbor, the Gili departure point, is 35 km north of Mataram. Senaru sits about 80 km north of Mataram, roughly 2 hours by car.
- Kuta: Selong Belanak, Mawi, Tanjung Aan, Batu Payung, Sade and Ende. Pink Beach is possible but long.
- Senggigi or Mataram: Gili Trawangan via Bangsal, the Southwest Gilis, the palace and temple loop, and the craft villages.
- Senaru or the north: Sendang Gile, Tiu Kelep, Sembalun and Pergasingan. Pairing these with Pink Beach wastes a day.
- Gili Islands: you already sleep on the water, so your day trip is a boat hop to another island or back to Lombok.
Gili Trawangan and the Northwest Gilis

Gili Trawangan is the classic boat day from Bangsal Harbor. Fast boats cover the crossing in about 30 minutes. One-way tickets were reported at Rp120,000–150,000, and operators vary. Arrive at the harbor 30 minutes before departure. Trawangan has no motorized vehicles, so a bicycle at about Rp50,000 per day loops the island. Snorkel sets rent for around Rp50,000–70,000. Turtle Point sightings are best before 11 AM, and snorkel tours typically run 9 AM to noon. Last boat back is reported at 5 PM, but that varies by season and operator. Confirm the return time at the pier on arrival, then set a phone alarm. Air and Meno leave from the same harbor. Air works as an all-round base, and Meno is quieter. Treat the open-water crossing seriously and check sea conditions on the day. Our harbor and ferry details cover the logistics. For vehicle ferries, the ASDP ferry operator publishes routes. Arrival routes are in island arrival options.
Gili Nanggu, Sudak and Kedis: The Quieter Southwest Gilis

Gili Nanggu, Sudak and Kedis sit off the southwest coast near Sekotong. Drive time from Mataram is about 45 minutes. A local boat charter from Tawun Harbor was reported at Rp250,000–350,000 round trip for two people. That price lets you hop between all three islands in one circuit. Pack food, water and snorkel gear. Warungs on Nanggu reportedly close after midday. No guide is required, but agree the pickup time before you leave the dock. Weekdays are reportedly quieter. More off-route ideas sit in our guide to lesser-visited Lombok stops.
Pink Beach and the Southeast Coast
Pink Beach sits on the southeast coast, about 75 km and 2.5 hours by car from Mataram. Guides label it Pantai Tangsi or Pantai Merah, so confirm the name with your driver. Its color is subtle, a light peachy pink that shows best in bright sun, early morning or late afternoon. Expect calm water for swimming and few facilities beyond a couple of food stalls. Bring your own snorkel, because on-site rentals are limited. Start before 7 AM and arrive by 9 AM to claim shade. Car with driver from Mataram was reported at Rp400,000–600,000 per day. Roads on the peninsula can turn impassable after heavy rain, and the last stretch is rough. Add-ons include Tanjung Ringgit for cliff views and the Tanjung Poki blowholes in the Sekaroh district. Stay well back from cliff edges and wet rocks, because big waves make blowholes dangerous. Skip Pink Beach plus Senaru in one day.

Rinjani Foothills and Waterfalls from Senaru and Sembalun
Mount Rinjani's summit is a multi-day trek, not a day trip. Confirm permits and trail status with the national park office before booking anything beyond the foothills. Foothill days from Senaru cover Sendang Gile and Tiu Kelep waterfalls. Senaru is about 2 hours by car from Mataram, so leave by 6 AM. Allow 3–4 hours round trip, including swimming. Entry was reported at Rp20,000 on weekdays and Rp30,000 on weekends, so verify at the gate. Trails are steep and slippery after rain, so wear trail shoes rather than sandals. Tiu Kelep needs stream crossings beyond the stairs to Sendang Gile. Benang Stokel and Benang Kelambu make a separate waterfall day in Central Lombok, with costs that vary by operator. From Sembalun, Bukit Pergasingan is a 3–4 hour hike, usually with a guide, to a plateau around 1,200 m. Many hikers camp for sunrise, though sunset treks also run. Nearby, Mangku Sakti waterfall at Sajang offers a cool-off after the hike.

South Coast Days from Kuta: Surf, Beaches and Viewpoints

Kuta is the base for south coast days. Selong Belanak is the beginner surf beach, about 65 km south of Mataram and 1 hour by car. Two-hour group lessons were reported at Rp200,000–250,000. Mawi is a stronger reef break, so it suits experienced surfers. Surf Selong Belanak in the morning, then check Mawi around noon. Tanjung Aan and Batu Payung add beach time and a hilltop sunset view. Climb the hill behind Batu Payung for the bay view. Scooters work on paved routes in dry season, but loose gravel needs confidence. Wave details live in surf breaks near Kuta. Beach options are compared in south coast beach picks.
Sasak Villages: Sade and Ende
Sade and Ende are Sasak villages about 40 km south of Mataram, near Rembitan, on the road to Kuta. Both pair neatly with a south coast day. Entry to Sade was reported at Rp10,000 per person, and Ende asks for a donation to its weaving cooperative. Arrive before 10 AM to see weaving before the heat slows work. Ask before photographing residents and dress modestly. A woven textile reportedly takes 2–4 weeks and sells for Rp300,000–600,000, so buy from the cooperative if you want one.
Sade's Rp10,000 entry is small, but a woven textile at Rp300,000–600,000 costs far more, so carry extra cash.
Adventure Add-Ons: ATV, Rafting and Tubing
ATV rides, river rafting and tubing suit travelers who want motion rather than viewing. Ask operators about helmets, safety briefings and what the price includes. Pickup fees, entry fees and lunch are the usual extras. Our rafting guide covers river options.

Season and Sea Conditions
Dry season runs May to October, and wet season runs November to April. Boat frequency reportedly drops from December to February. Late 2026 trips fall in the wet-season window, so check the forecast each morning. Southeast roads can become impassable after heavy rain. BMKG, the national meteorological agency, publishes sea and weather forecasts. Month-by-month timing sits in our best-time guide. Wet-season trade-offs are covered in rainy-season planning.
Costs, Time and Transport Compared
Budget bands here are reported ranges, not quotes. A car with driver from Mataram averaged Rp400,000–600,000 per day. Book it the day before through your hotel. Guided treks from Senaru should be booked about 48 hours ahead. Carry Rp300,000–500,000 in cash per person for transport, fees, food and rentals. ATMs exist in Mataram, Senggigi and Kuta but are rare at Pink Beach and Senaru. Withdraw before you leave.
Rp340,000–420,000 for a Gili day leaves out the transfer to Bangsal, which sits 35 km north of Mataram.

- Scooter: cheapest per day and suits confident riders on paved southern roads. It fails on loose gravel and in rain. Rates and rules are in our scooter rental guide.
- Private car with driver: best for Pink Beach, Senaru and Sade, since it removes road risk. Cost starts around Rp400,000–600,000 per day from Mataram.
- Group or private tour: check pickup fees, entry fees, lunch and snorkel gear before paying. Compare tour options and operators.
- Public boat or charter: Gili Trawangan fast boats run Rp120,000–150,000 one-way, and Nanggu charters run Rp250,000–350,000 round trip.
- Sample Gili day from Mataram: two boat tickets (Rp240,000–300,000), a bicycle (Rp50,000) and a snorkel set (Rp50,000–70,000) total roughly Rp340,000–420,000, before the transfer to Bangsal.
Sample Day Combinations
Each route keeps to one region. Pair any of them with dinner from our food guide.
- Kuta: Sade and Ende before 10 AM, Selong Belanak surf, sunset at Batu Payung.
- Senggigi: Gili Trawangan snorkel tour from 9 AM to noon, beach time, boat back before the reported 5 PM last departure.
- Mataram: Southwest Gilis charter from Tawun Harbor, back on the mainland by early afternoon.
- Senaru: Sendang Gile and Tiu Kelep in the morning, then a slow lunch and an early return.
Mistakes to Avoid
These five errors waste the most time.
- Treating the Rinjani summit as a day trip. It is a multi-day trek.
- Crossing the island in one day, such as Pink Beach plus Senaru.
- Ignoring last boat times from the Gilis.
- Assuming snorkel gear is available on site, especially at Pink Beach and Nanggu.
- Relying on a stale price. Confirm every figure with the operator or official source before you pay.
