Lombok Beaches: Best Spots by Area (2026 Guide)
Best Lombok beaches by area: Kuta, Selong Belanak, Mawun, Pink Beach and the Secret Gilis, with swim safety, transport costs and dry-season timing.
On this page
Last updated November 2026: this guide sorts Lombok beaches by coast, so you can choose a base before you choose a sand strip. Our pick for most visitors is the south coast around Kuta, with Selong Belanak for swimming and Tanjung Aan for white sand and scale. Plan on a scooter or a hired driver, and aim for the dry season. For the wider island, start with our Lombok things-to-do guide.

Lombok beaches at a glance
We'd choose one beach per need rather than trying to see everything. Most competitor guides agree on the south coast as the easiest base. They disagree on several distances and times, so treat every figure here as an estimate and confirm it locally. The table gives our quick picks.
| Need | Our pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Swimming | Selong Belanak or Mawun | Both are described as calm, sheltered bays |
| Beginner surf | Selong Belanak | Local instructors rent boards on the beach |
| White sand and scale | Tanjung Aan | Reported at about 2 km long |
| Seclusion | Mawun on a weekday morning | Few facilities and usually quieter |
| Sunset | Bukit Merese | Lookout over Tanjung Aan |
| Snorkeling | Gili Kedis or Pink Beach | Boat-based, clear shallow water reported |

Which part of Lombok for which beach trip
Lombok has four beach areas worth planning around. The south coast around Kuta is our default, because beaches sit within roughly 10 to 40 minutes of town by scooter. Southwest Sekotong suits boat days to the Secret Gilis. Senggigi on the west coast suits people who want restaurants and evening options. The east suits long, effortful days. Land at Praya's airport and check arrival details on the Lombok International Airport site. Our airport guide covers the terminal. Our how-to-get-to-Lombok guide covers the onward options. Competitor transfer estimates from the airport appear below.

- Kuta and Selong Belanak: about 30 minutes by road, per Rough Guides' Selong Belanak entry
- Senggigi: 1 to 1.5 hours by DAMRI bus or taxi
- Tawun harbour (Secret Gilis): about 1.5 hours
- Ekas: about 50 km by paved road
- Tanjung Bloam: roughly 1 to 2.5 hours by road
- Pink Beach: about 80 km from Kuta, per one source

South coast beaches in detail
Start east of Kuta and work west. Each stop below carries one warning, since the access roads vary more than the beaches do.
- Kuta Beach: closest to town, with parking and shops. Water is calmer than at most neighbours. Go for the evening, not for solitude.
- Seger: about 10 minutes east of Kuta, per competitors. It suits local surf and a hill viewpoint. Go early, before the wind picks up.
- Tanjung Aan: about 2 km of pale sand. Arrive by 9 AM for the quietest hours. Established warungs were reportedly cleared in 2026 and replaced by temporary stalls, so bring water.
- Bukit Merese: our sunset pick, beside Tanjung Aan. Parking is reported at Rp10,000 and the climb takes about 5 minutes. Keep food away from the monkeys.
- Mawun: about 20 minutes from Kuta. It is a horseshoe bay with light breaks at each end. Weekday mornings are usually quieter.
- Selong Belanak: our swim-and-learn pick. Sources put it at 15 to 25 km from Kuta and 30 to 40 minutes by scooter. Plan for the longer figure.
- Are Guling: west of Kuta, with two breaks. Expect little shade and few services.
- Mawi: about 40 minutes west of Kuta, then a rough dirt track of about 15 minutes. We'd leave Mawi to experienced surfers and riders.

East and southeast: Pink Beach, Tanjung Bloam and Ekas
These are longer-effort days, not add-ons. Pink Beach (Tangsi) is reported at about 80 km from Kuta, with a rough final stretch and a small entrance fee. A boat from Tanjung Luar is described as taking about 30 minutes. Tanjung Bloam is reported at 1 to 2.5 hours by road, ending on a narrow track of about 500 m. Bring all water, because there are no shops. Ekas sits about 50 km from the airport and is known for surf breaks and kitesurfing. We'd pick one east stop per day and start before 8 AM. Our guide to quieter secluded beaches covers more options.
Southwest and the Secret Gilis
The Secret Gilis are boat-based. Drive to Tawun harbour in Sekotong, about 1.5 hours from the airport, then hire a local boat. Gili Kedis is reported at 10 to 15 minutes from Tawun, with a return fare around Rp150,000–200,000 including waiting time. There is no shade, food or shop on Gili Kedis, so pack everything. Confirm the fare before boarding. Our Lombok ferry guide covers the larger crossings. For Bali sailings, check ASDP's ferry operator site.
Gili Kedis is reported at 10 to 15 minutes from Tawun, so a boat day starts about 1.5 hours from the airport.

West coast: Senggigi, Batu Bolong and Mangsit
Senggigi is the best-developed base, with dining and nightlife nearby. Rough Guides says the outer beaches beat Senggigi Beach itself. Batu Bolong is a 10-minute walk south, and Mangsit is about 3 km north. Choose this coast if you want dinner options after a swim. Browse Lombok restaurants for dinner. See Lombok Nightlife Guide: Bars, Beach Clubs & Getting Home for later. Evenings around Kuta are covered in our beach clubs guide.
Getting around: scooter vs driver vs ojek
Scooter rental is reported at Rp50,000–80,000 per day, with fuel extra. Private drivers are reported at Rp300,000–450,000 per day. These are single-source figures, so confirm before booking. Our pick for confident riders is a scooter on the south coast, where main roads are good tarmac. Beach approach roads can be steep, rough or muddy. Check your licence and insurance rules before riding. Read our scooter rental guide first. A driver suits families and anyone planning four beaches in one day. Compare Lombok Tours: Types, Costs & How to Choose or Day Trips From Lombok: Gilis, Pink Beach, Waterfalls if you'd rather not ride.
Scooter rental runs Rp50,000–80,000 per day, yet Mawi's rough dirt track of about 15 minutes is best left to experienced riders.
Best time to visit and monthly conditions

The dry season runs roughly April to November, though sources vary from May to October. July to September is peak, with the most consistent surf. December to March brings afternoon downpours and rougher seas. Check forecasts with BMKG, Indonesia's weather agency. Our best-time guide breaks down the months. Read our rainy season guide for wet-season trade-offs. A MotoGP weekend at the Mandalika circuit strains Kuta rooms. One competitor placed it in October 2026, and that date has passed. For future years, check official calendars and book months ahead.
What to pack and safety
Remote beaches may have no shade, shops or phone signal. Carry cash in rupiah, because ATMs are in Kuta town and not near the sand. We'd treat any beach flagged for current, such as Lancing, as look-only.
- Water and snacks for Lancing, Mawi and the Secret Gilis
- Reef shoes, since Pantai Sire reportedly has sea urchins
- Sunscreen, a hat and a towel for the scooter seat
- Cash for parking and boat hire
- A dry bag for boat days
- Trash bag: carry out everything you bring in
Sample Lombok beach itineraries
Split the south coast into two halves. Leave early on both days, since midday heat is strong and the last stretches are slow.
- Day 1, east: Seger first, then Tanjung Aan by 9 AM, then Bukit Merese for sunset.
- Day 2, west: Are Guling, then Mawun, then Selong Belanak for a swim or lesson.
- No scooter: hire a driver for one half per day and confirm stops and the return time.
- Bali comparison: see whether Lombok is worth visiting before choosing.
