Last updated November 2026: Gili Trawangan tours fall into a few clear groups, and picking the right one saves money. Snorkel boats, sunset cruises, land activities, cidomo circuits and boat transfers cover most bookings, and the island is small enough to book most of them after you arrive. For general sightseeing, start with our Gili Trawangan sightseeing guide.

Snorkel boat tours
Snorkel boats are the main category. A public three-island trip links Gili Trawangan with Gili Meno and Gili Air. Listed stops include the underwater sculptures, the Meno Wall site and Gili Meno's Turtle Paradise. The public three-island trip is the cheapest option. A half-day trip leaving from Gili Trawangan costs a little more and has fewer stops. A private charter costs several times as much and lets you set the pace.
Shared boats suit solo travelers and tight budgets. Private boats suit families with small children, non-swimmers and photographers. Morning departures usually mean calmer water and fewer boats, but confirm conditions with the operator. A free alternative exists. Turtle Point sits on the northern tip of the island, and offshore snorkeling is reported to be best on the eastern and northern sides. Check sea conditions before you swim, and see free snorkeling beaches for entry spots.
A paid boat adds more sites, a guide and gear. It is not worth the money if you only want a quick look at turtles from shore.

Sunset cruises and catamaran trips
Sunset cruises differ from snorkel runs because the goal is evening light, not marine life. One listed 4-in-1 product combines snorkeling with a half-day catamaran sunset cruise. It scored 9.8 from 20 reviews on Booking.com. That is several times the price of a shared snorkel trip.
A free option exists. Sunset Point is on the western side, about a 20 to 25 minute walk from the port area. Many visitors head west about 40 minutes before sunset. Pay for a cruise if you want a boat, a quiet deck and a private-feeling evening. Skip it if a walk and a drink satisfy you. For what to do afterwards, see Gili Trawangan Nightlife: Bars, Party Nights & Where to Go.
Land-based and cultural tours
Land activities fill the hours between boat trips. A cooking class is listed at a mid-range price and holds a 10 rating from 28 reviews. Book it early in your stay, then compare what you learned against the menus in island restaurants.

Horse and cart tours need care. Beach horseback riding with hotel pickup is listed at a mid-range price, and a swim-and-care activity for rescued horses costs less than half as much. One travel blog reports that horses pulling carts on the island look overworked. Ask any operator how many hours each horse works, whether it rests, and how it is fed. Look at the animals before you pay. Check the Gili Eco Trust site for its current horse-welfare work.
A cidomo island circuit is a horse-drawn cart ride. It is not priced in our sources, so agree the fare before you climb on. Apply the same welfare checks. Walking or cycling is the alternative, and getting around the island covers bicycles and carts.
Boat transfers sold as tours
Some listings called tours are really transport. Listings include a luxury speedboat to Bali, a high-speed ferry ticket to Bali and a private speedboat between Lombok and the Gilis, all at similar prices. One blog reports about 20 minutes from Lombok and 1 to 3 hours from Bali. Verify those times with the operator before you plan around them.

Treat these as transfers, not experiences. Our ferry guide covers schedules and ticket types. For route planning, read how to reach the island. Coming from Bali specifically? See Bali to Gili Trawangan: Fast Boat Routes & Tips (2026).
Day trips beyond the island
A Lombok mainland day trip and a Gili Meno and Gili Air hop go beyond the home island. Check the operator's exact itinerary, return boat time and whether entry fees are included. Our Day Trips From Gili Trawangan: Meno, Air & More guide covers these in full, so use it before you pay a deposit.
Prices and what is included
Every price in this guide is a "from" price quoted on Booking.com in Vietnamese dong as of November 2026. Treat it as a floor, not a final cost. Exchange rates and seasonal demand change, so open the live listing and compare.
Snorkel listings usually sell gear, a guide and a boat. Check whether hotel pickup, marine or park fees and food are inside the price. Many listings flagged free cancellation, but terms differ by product. Ask what happens if the sea is too rough. Cash matters on the island. One blog reports ATMs that sometimes run dry, so carry backup cash from Bali or Lombok. For national tourism information and current rules, see Indonesia's official tourism site.

How to choose and book
Most of these trips can be booked after arrival, which lets you check the weather first. Book ahead for private charters, catamaran cruises and peak-season dates. Hotel pickup may depend on where you sleep, so see where to stay before you commit to a pickup-based tour.
Transfers from Bali can take 1 to 3 hours, so set the day's snorkel or sunset plan after you confirm the crossing time.
Sea conditions change the plan. Read the best time to visit before you lock in a snorkeling day. Use this checklist to vet an operator:

- Ask for a safety briefing and life jackets for every guest, including children.
- Ask how many guests share the boat.
- Ask how the crew handles turtles and reef contact. Touching coral or chasing turtles is poor practice.
- Check boat condition and recent reviews.
- Confirm the refund terms for rough weather.
- Ask non-swimmers and seasick-prone guests about a calmer route.
Sample plans for one to three days
Mix one active tour with one rest block per day. Morning suits snorkeling, afternoon suits shade, and evening suits sunset.
Plan the Sunset Point visit as a 20 to 25 minute walk from port, and head west about 40 minutes before sunset.
- Day 1 only: join a half-day snorkel in the morning, rest in the afternoon, then walk to Sunset Point.
- Day 1 of 2: take a shared three-island snorkel trip, then sleep early.
- Day 2 of 2: take a cooking class, rest, then watch sunset at Sunset Point.
- Day 3 of 3: choose a cruise, a horse-care visit after welfare checks, or a Lombok day trip.
- Rainy day: swap the boat for a cooking class or a café afternoon.
Mistakes to avoid
Over-booking is the most common error. Two boat trips in one day leave little time for rest. Ignoring sea conditions is another. Ask the operator on the morning of departure, not three days ahead. Booking through a hotel that does not suit your plan can add pickup fees or limit your options. Skip operators with no reviews or no safety briefing. Do not arrive without cash. If you are still deciding whether to stay, read whether the island is worth visiting.
