Where to Stay in Kuta Lombok: 5 Best Areas
Choose where to stay in Kuta Lombok: 5 areas compared, from Kuta town to Selong Belanak and Serangan, with transfer costs, season tips and mistakes to avoid.

Last updated November 2026. Choosing where to stay in Kuta Lombok comes down to one trade-off: walkable food in town, or quiet beaches 20 to 25 minutes away. We compare five bases on the same terms, then show how to match one to your trip. Use our Kuta Lombok planning guide to fill the days once you pick.
Quick Answer: Which Base Fits You
First, a disambiguation. Kuta Lombok is a surf town on the south coast of Lombok island. It is not Kuta Bali, which is a separate and much busier tourist area. Check that your booking page says Lombok before you pay.
Our short answer: pick Kuta town Centre if it is your first visit and you want to walk to dinner. Pick Selong Belanak for families and swimming. Pick Serangan for seclusion and a resort budget. Pick Gerupuk only if surfing is the whole plan. Pick Prabu Hill for bay views and a short scooter ride into town.
Where to Stay in Kuta Lombok: 5 Best Areas
Each area below has a clear best-for traveler and a clear trade-off. Drive times come from guides we reviewed, so treat them as estimates and confirm with your host.

- 1. Kuta town Centre
- Best for first-timers and short stays. Cafes, restaurants, bars and surf shops cluster around the main crossroads on Jl Raya Kuta, so most errands need no scooter.
- Trade-off: it is the busiest and loudest base, and the beach is not the calmest. Mid-range options listed by guides include Sikara Lombok Hotel on Jl Mawun and Rawa Lombok on Jl Pariwisata Pantai Kuta.
- 2. Prabu Hill
- Best for couples and sunset views. Guides place it about five minutes from the Centre, with easy access to quieter Are Guling beach.
- Trade-off: hillside villas mean stairs. Somewhere Lombok, above Are Guling Bay, runs a daily shuttle into town but warns of many steps, so ask for an upper villa if mobility matters.
- 3. Gerupuk
- Best for dedicated surfers. This fishing village sits about 10 minutes from Kuta and is the launch point for local-boat trips to the Gerupuk Bay breaks.
- Trade-off: the beach is not for sunbathing, and the village is dusty and functional. Read our Kuta Lombok surf guide before booking a surf camp.
- 4. Selong Belanak
- Best for families and beach lovers. Guides put this crescent bay about 20 to 25 minutes west of town, with calm, swimmable water and little development.
- Trade-off: dinner out means a drive. Sempiak Seaside Resort sits here and lists 18 villas and holiday houses. Compare it with other bays in our Kuta Lombok beaches guide.
- 5. Serangan
- Best for a secluded retreat. Guides describe about 25 minutes to Kuta town, with beachfront resorts such as Segara Lombok Beach Resort and a surf break in front.
- Trade-off: it is the priciest base on this list, and nights are quiet. Plan transport before you arrive.
Area Comparison Table
This table puts the five bases on the same axes. Cells are qualitative where our sources give no figure.
| Area | Vibe | Food without a scooter | Beach type | Best for | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kuta town Centre | Social, busy | Easy, walk to cafes | Town beach | First-timers, nightlife | Noise |
| Prabu Hill | Quiet, scenic | Short ride | Views, Are Guling nearby | Couples | Stairs, hills |
| Gerupuk | Local, raw | A few simple cafes | Surf by boat | Serious surfers | Poor for sunbathing |
| Selong Belanak | Calm, spacious | Limited, drive needed | Swimmable bay | Families | Distance from town |
| Serangan | Secluded | Resort dining | Beach and surf break | Retreat seekers | Cost, isolation |
Pick by Budget Tier
Rates swing by season, so check current prices on each property's own site. Guides list Boogie Hostel Kuta Lombok, Botchan Hostel and Yuli's at the budget end. Rawa Lombok is listed in the budget-friendly central tier, with one guide quoting rooms from Rp 650,000 a night. Sikara Lombok Hotel is listed from Rp 1,100,000. Amber Lombok Beach Resort at Torok Bay is also listed from Rp 1,100,000.

Rawa Lombok in the Centre is listed at Rp 650,000 a night, so the budget pick and the walkable base can be the same stay.
At the top end, one guide lists Sempiak Seaside Resort from Rp 1,666,667, Segara Lombok Beach Resort from Rp 2,300,000 and Somewhere Lombok from Rp 3,500,000. We treat all of these as starting points, not quotes. If a spa is part of the plan, see our Kuta Lombok spa guide first.
Getting There and Getting Around From Each Base
Lombok International Airport (LOP) is about 30 minutes from Kuta. Guides quote taxi or Grab fares between Rp 150,000 and Rp 200,000, and the sources disagree, so confirm before you ride. We suggest pre-booking a driver for late arrivals.

Budget for a scooter at Rp 70,000 to Rp 100,000 per day if you split your stay, since beach nights need one.
Staying outside town raises transport costs. A scooter is the most common choice at about Rp 70,000 to Rp 100,000 per day. A hired driver runs about Rp 350,000 to Rp 500,000 per day depending on distance. Selong Belanak and Serangan sit 20 to 25 minutes out in one guide, while another says 25 to 40 minutes. Plan around the longer figure after dark, when roads can be unlit.
Food access matters too. From town, browse Kuta Lombok restaurants for dinner plans. Another option is the Kuta Lombok Night Market: Dates, Location & What to Expect. Nightlife fans should read about Kuta Lombok Nightlife: Bars, Live Music & Getting Home and stay in the Centre.
When to Go: Wet vs Dry Season
Guides give the dry season as roughly May to September and the wet season as roughly October to April. Surfers favor the wet months for waves, so Gerupuk and Serangan fit October to April. Beach stays at Selong Belanak suit the drier months best. We cannot give rainfall data from our sources. See our Kuta Lombok weather guide for month-by-month planning. Mistakes to Avoid
Five slips come up repeatedly in the guides we reviewed.
- Booking Serangan or Selong Belanak without transport
- Without a scooter or driver, every meal becomes a 20 to 25 minute trip.
- Expecting Gerupuk to be a sunbathing beach
- It is a working fishing village, and surf access is by boat.
- Confusing Kuta Lombok with Kuta Bali
- Check the island on the booking page.
- Skipping the stairs check on a hillside villa
- Ask the property how many steps lead to your room.
- Arriving after dark without a transfer
- Arrange a driver ahead of time rather than hunting for one at Arrivals.
How Many Nights to Stay
Guides suggest 3 to 5 days as a minimum. Our editorial suggestion is a split stay: 2 nights in town, then 2 to 3 nights at a beach base such as Selong Belanak or Serangan. That gives you walkable food first and quiet afterward. If you also plan to visit the Gilis, Tetebatu or Sembalun, see our Day Trips From Kuta Lombok: Beaches, Waterfalls & Surf.
