Ubud sightseeing: plan palace, market, and museum stops

The heart of Ubud packs a lot into a short walk. Ubud Palace and Ubud Market face each other on Jalan Raya Ubud, and Saraswati Temple sits just off the same street behind its lotus pond — daytime entry to all three costs nothing, which makes them an easy first loop on foot.

Beyond the center, the sights ask for a little planning. The Neka Art Museum and Blanco Renaissance Museum are both paid and worth booking, and each runs from about 45 minutes to two hours. Setia Darma House of Masks and Puppets sits out in Sukawati and needs a driver, not a walk from town.

Farther east, Yeh Pulu's cliff-carved relief in Bedulu makes a quiet 30-45 minute stop. Puri Lukisan on Jalan Raya Ubud is modest and calm — give it a focused hour.

Pairing the central stops in one walk

Start on Jalan Raya Ubud, where Ubud Palace and Ubud Market sit opposite each other. Walk the palace's outer courtyard first — 20-45 minutes is enough — then cross to the market for 45 minutes to two hours of stalls, haggling on the craft side.

Saraswati Temple is a 20-30 minute stop just off the same street, so add it to the same outing. Puri Lukisan also fronts Jalan Raya Ubud and fits a focused hour.

One day, three priorities

With a single day, take the free center first: Ubud Palace's carved gateways and guardians, the market opposite, and Saraswati Temple behind its lotus pond. All three sit within a short walk and cost nothing by day.

Then pick one museum. Neka Art Museum on Jalan Raya Sanggingan gives the broadest look at Balinese painting and takes 90 minutes to two hours.
